ANTHROPOLOGY: SWIMMING

SWIMMING HOLE

Puglia, Italy
Used since early-Roman era (~100BC)

The ocular hole is carved through thousands of years of tidal erosion.

The water is cold, but calm.

The stone at the surface has an incredible weathered pattern.

Alignment: Hera @ Crotone

Location: Temple of Hera, Crotone, Calabria, Italy
Origin: 7th C. BCE, Greek
Ancient name: Promunturium LaciniumOther associated parties: Pythagoras (school)

Cardinal alignment of the temple.

From compass observations in situ, the layout appears to be incredibly precise, aligning axially from East to West.

Reviewing the actual sun map at the site, the site confirms the simple compass reading.
